- The in-house LCS team at Starr is comprised of former marine surveyors, licensed mariners, logistics professionals, and industry-recognized security experts. This staff is supplemented by a worldwide network of highly qualified and rigorously vetted professionals, any and/or all of which can be retained to support the needs of the given Assured. Correspondents include:
- Security consultants and investigators
- Logistics and supply chain experts
- Licensed mariners and engineers
- Law enforcement personnel
- Qualified marine surveyors
- Fire safety inspectors
- As part of the multi-modal supply chain, LCS team members have worked with all manners of transportation. Whether a shipment is to be carried by rail, truck, or vessel, the team has the knowledge and contacts needed to review and advise industry best practices for all manners of transportation. The team relies on rail inspectors, naval architects, vessel operators, and terminal managers to advise the appropriate standards – any of which can deployed at any time.
- The LCS team supports all lines of business within the Starr Marine underwriting appetite. Guidance is provided for primary marine lines of business: cargo, hull and marine liability. Proprietary and industry-leading programs have been developed to support clients, offering Starr Marine unique access to an Assured’s operations and returning specific recommendations to each and every operation reviewed. Some of the customized programs include:
- SMS Program
- Designed to allow underwriters unprecedented insight into the operations associated with marine transportation companies, the SMS program reviews marine construction, coastal tug and barge, and inland operators. The assessment covers not only the operating instructions, but confirms an operation’s hiring, maintenance, safety, and training programs. Used in conjunction with standard condition surveys, the program allows underwriters and Assureds to objectively assess each operation against a unified baseline.
-
TMS Program
- Built specifically for marine terminal operators, the TMS program focuses directly on the unique characteristics of marine terminals. Assessing not only the physical characteristics of each individual terminal, the program targets environmental, personnel and regulatory compliance issues. Data from each assessment is used to create a singular standard, which is then used to generate baseline recommendations for safe practice.
- The LCS team prides itself on being accessible to clients at any time. Informal discussions on new facility or equipment purchases, vessel selection criteria, geographical and climate issues occur every day. LCS constantly reevaluates existing intelligence and continuously searches for new vendors to support these issues. While many of these vendors are longstanding partners, new programs are discussed and evaluated every day. Loss control is a dynamic process, and the LCS team recognizes the need to continually evolve with the changing needs and circumstances of the business.
